As our Mai Goa celebrates 58 years of liberation on this day, once again it will be a day of useless speeches by our own useless politicians. The prime responsibility of any elected government is the safety and security of its people and their land. Being a father of two little girls, I just can’t just forget the rape on Goa’s six year old little daughter and that too within the school premises in a broad daylight with no justice to the poor little victim been done till date. It’s not just the failure of our system but this cowardly act and the incompetency of our concerned authorities has miserably failed every Goan father of a daughter. Are our daughters secured and safe in liberated Goa? Do we still remember the rape on another of our own girls on the Betalbatim beach?
In these 58 years of liberation, our Mai Goa has been ruined and looted in the name of development. Our fertile fields been converted into huge concrete structures. Goa’s beautiful green hills razed into flat surfaces. Huge number of constructions been allowed on the hills. Sand dunes on virgin beaches been cleared to make way for rich hotels. In other words our virgin beaches been miserably raped during broad daylight. We all are aware of the massive mining scam and sadly the concerned authorities have totally forgotten about the recovery of the mining loot worth thousands of crores of rupees. It is because of total greed by a very few the genuine mining dependents are badly suffering due to the mining closure. Our rivers sold and full swing efforts are been made by the people in power even to sell our precious coastline for the mafias. It is very hard and sad to believe that even the Island of Vanxim belonging to the Archdiocese of Goa been sold for few lakhs of rupees by some of our own people. How god fearing people can trust these people who sold the priceless island of Vaxim for a price.
The first revolution against the Portuguese was started from my village of Cuncolim but sad to say that daring Cuncollekars disappeared long ago. The ground water of our village got polluted due to the dumping of the industrial waste in the nearby fields. Carbon deposits in our homes is not something new and nobody knows when the killer rotten fishy smell with start to haunt us again.
Last but not the least even hard efforts been made to forcefully rob Goa’s water and our authorities behave as though they are aware of nothing. Thanks to the daring sons and daughters of Goa who are tirelessly fighting the battle against the rich, powerful, legal mafia to protect our mai Madhei.
Cyclone Kyar was a warning. Don’t play with tides of our sea and don’t take our rivers for granted. The worst is yet to come if we all don’t change our attitude towards nature and if the worst appears then even our God won’t be able to save us. Wish you all a very happy 58th Liberation day.
