Having made that assessment, he did not do what is basic police work properly. Should he not as a policeman, been suspicious given the dead man’s position, should he not have acted in that manner, collected material evidence carefully and searched the sight, walked with the boys on the route taken etc. Finger print on bottles, missing the vest, and claiming it is accidental death yet waiting for viscera reports. Could they not have held back their judgment till the reports came? This leads to the suspicion that something is amiss. Is anything going to be done to the PI for shoddy work, surely this must be the basic of police training? The administration led by the CM is not covering itself in glory either. First, he maybe CM but he is a forensically challenged layman as anyone else who is asking for justice. How did he come to the conclusion that it is accidental drowning when the viscera reports are pending. It was egg on the face for sure when he handed over the case to the CID after refusing too initially. Now if the protesters make up their mind he will hand over the case to a SIT. Are not these decisions taken with proper study by experts and only announced by CM’s?
The manner in which the peaceful protesters were handled and his defense, that there was no brutality is shocking. Has he seen the videos on social media or did he depend as usual on the police reports. If Sec 144 is operational, why were IFFI delegates not arrested for assembling in groups more than 4? Why were IFFI banners allowed? Where does Sec 144 prevent banners from being displayed? Did the cops consider the flags as dangerous weapons?
What the CM seems to suggest is blocking up the national highway, breaking road barriers, assaulting cops are all acceptable and protesters should not worry about getting arrested because there was no Sec 144 in operation. Maybe the protesters demanding justice which obviously cannot be brought from a store should ask the Nigerians to support the cause and then the cops will think twice about arresting them.
Justice should not just be done, it should also seen as being done. That Mr CM is the bottom line.
