VALPOI: Traffic congestion has become a routine problem in Valpoi in the last five years. Locals have repeatedly demanded a solution to the issue, to no avail.
Valpoi is a developing town, so the number of vehicles is increasing. Many people also visit the town for work and to shop.
In the morning and afternoon, school children as well as their parents have a tough time crossing the road due to heavy movement of traffic. Many motorists also park their two-wheelers and light four-wheelers in a haphazard manner, further hindering the movement of traffic. The roads in the middle of the town are also comparatively narrow.
Valpoi traffic police are trying their best to prevent traffic congestion, but are unsuccessful for many reasons. The main reason is that a traffic plan has not been notified by the authorities.
Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) Chairperson Ramdas Shirodkar said that the VMC has already submitted a traffic plan, but it is not yet approved by the traffic cell. He added that this “headache” will be eradicated only when a traffic plan is finalised.
The stretch from the city complex to the police residential campus is most congested area since it is centrally located. The locals have demanded that the police pay more attention to this area.
