Somebody has said that the world is a stage and we all are performers on this stage. Yes, we all are performers, we come on this stage, perform our role and then finally disappear. Very few of us perform our role perfectly during our journey on this stage of our life. It because of the ugly performance by most of us, the nature started to play odd. Again somebody has rightly said, “God always forgives, men sometimes forgives but nature never forgives”. Our performances turned out to be of harmful nature, they harmed and are still harming the nature in a very bad way and if we don’t change our behaviour towards nature at the earliest then it can turn out to be disastrous.
Now, a few words on our Konkani stage. Any theatrical stage is a sacred place. It is purely a place to perform our art coming through our blood. This sacred stage should never to be used to settle personal scores as it is used by some of our own tiatrists. In recent times, singing songs by our own tiatrists against each other is on the rise and this is not a good sign for the tiatr world. Personal differences should be settled off the stage and by carrying on such ugly performances targetting individuals on personal lives on the sacred stage brings total disrespect to the sacred stage. Konkani Tiatr is known to the world.
We all are aware that Konkani Kantaram Utsav will take place shortly. The state’s information and publicity department, in collaboration with Tiatr Academy of Goa, has decided that the competitors should sing the kantar based on the achievements of the present government and emphasising the schemes implemented by this government for the welfare of state and announced a prize for Rs 25,000.
I am surprised that this present government of ours is all out for self-praise through Konkani kantar. This government in the past had unsuccessfully attempted to bring in the Censor board for tiatrs. Are they thinking of taking control over Konkani kantar? One cannot demand praises or respect from others, it has to come by itself. A true Konkani singer has always sung his own mind and conscience and will continue to do that. A true artist respects the sacred stage and will never allow ugly people to take control over his/hers precious art. Let us wait and watch how many of our so called kantorists run after Rs 25,000.
