As elections for Goa assembly are drawing near, I sense this election is same like previous elections. Main issues of Goa, it’s people and it’s environment are taking a back stage, only alliances, corrupt persons are getting along to cheat voters.
There will be many candidates willing to contest forth coming polls in Navelim constituency.
Navelim was a beautiful village, self-sufficient with fields, salt pans, edible water, fresh as well as salt water fish. Sadly with filth from Margao town and sewage from buildings as well as politicians negligence my village has turned into a concrete jungle or a human zoo and I have proof of what I write.
Saipem lake was a beautiful lake with lot of fresh water fish breeding in it also a large numbers of birds used to visit this lake. People used to like this fish. Sadly now if you tell someone that fish is from Saipem lake nobody will buy it as it is polluted with all waste from Margao. Even if someone was to dig a well towards Nagmoddem Navelim one gets contaminated ground water.
In my younger days I learnt swimming in River Sal, but if I want to go for a swim in river Sal, I get rash or for that matter younger generations don’t have the chance to learn swimming in river Sal as full river is polluted with sewage and others forms of pollution. Even Margao municipal building sewage is released into river Sal.
People used to cultivate fields with rice, chillies etc all along the fields right up to Rawonfond bridge till Jackniband, but as this part of river Sal is polluted and local people cannot cultivate the fields due to polluted water, even Konkan railway is releasing it’s waste on this part of river Sal.
There were many salt pan in Navelim where locals used to produce salt but now one is forced to buy bleached salt as with pollution from river Sal one cannot produce salt. I will vote for candidate who include my following points in their election manifesto.
Cleaning of river Sal and plugging of all possible pollution sources. Clear Saipem lake and stop all sewage and others pollutants entering it. Promise no more buildings constitutions licence are given in fields. Promise bridges all along internal roads where western bypass highway is intersecting it.
