Fortunately the foundation stone for the Mopa Airport connectivity highway was not laid on December 10, 2016. Mopa Airport still remains only an “idea” with hypothetical master plans, based on unrealistic assumptions.
I refer to the interesting Herald news report (refer voice of Goa page 3 on December 6, 2016) about the sanctioning of a grant of Rs 75 crore to set up the Electronic City at Tuem in Pernem and the advertisement in the Herald (refer voice of Goa page 7 on December 7, 2016) for speculative Airport /Aviation sector career opportunities with the GMR Goa International Airport Ltd.
Has the Department of Information Technology received the final approval letter for the Greenfield Electronic Manufacturing Cluster(EMC) at village Tuem, Taluka Pernem, Goa? Or has financial assistance (enhanced or otherwise) been given for the large EMC/Special Economic Zone(SEZ) project without proper formal project approvals?
According to details of applications received under EMCs Scheme (as on November 30, 2016), the In-principle approval for the Hosur EMC project (listed at Sr.no.32) proposed in an area of 527.10 acres in Tamil Nadu has been cancelled and application closed. Are there plans to dump this massive scrapped Special Economic Zone (SEZ) project or a similar type EMC/SEZ project in Pernem Taluka for promoting the unviable Mopa Airport?
Is Mopa Airport development linked to the implementation of unsustainable and rejected SEZ projects/parks and Industrial/Urban townships or cities under the hidden Goa Special Investment Region? From the above referred advertisement, it is shocking to read that the so-called Concession Agreement for Mopa Airport has not been signed with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India. Which mandated independent institutional set-up in Goa has signed the Concession Agreement for the so-called Goa International Airport at Mopa? Is there a key role after a period of time for the unsuccessful Mopa Airport bidder (namely Airports Authority of India) for the implementation of the now attempted Goa International Airport at Mopa (instead of the existing Goa International Airport at Dabolim)?
It also appears that the advertised possible career opportunities with GMR Goa International Airport Limited are open for candidates from all over India and abroad. If Mopa Airport and supporting projects are meant to provide career opportunities for local candidates from Goa, why is it not specifically seen in the above referred advertisement?
