Where are we heading? Is this what Goans are? We have lived united no matter what religion we belong to. We have the best media to put our views and concerns forward, can’t we use it for betterment of Goa?
Our one Goa has different groups and most of the groups are very active for debates. Posts that cause harm to religious sentiments are openly posted and debated upon. Facebook is become an engine to promote communal hearted. If we look back a few years, when everyone was relying on the radio, television and the newspaper for correct information, those were the happy days of united Goans.
Pictures of Gods of different religion are given different meaning by the poster or posted with an intention to debate on the hate he has within. These people who had a bad childhood, who were badly treated by their parents, teachers and society spill venom and create a divide within us Goans by using the social media. Who have allowed the non-Goans to join Goan Groups and to comment on our internal matter? The Admins are looking forward to have the highest number of members to show theirs is the biggest group. This is the divide. Is there no way the Admins of the group to find out if a person is Goan or non-Goan? Try googling a name and it will give the LinkedIn, Facebook, WhatsApp etc. details of an individual. Can’t we all draw a line and say this is the limit and enough is enough?
The onus is on the Admins of the group to monitor and ban the troublemaker from the group. Amongst us, we have a lot of FB users who try and stop this hatred from spreading by advising Admins of the group to remove the post. But most of the Admins do not delete the post to gain publicity of long debate on a post and to be popular.
Are you any different from the politicians whom we are blaming of vote bank politics? Are you the Admins creating vote banks of being the favourite group of hate? I would encourage all Goan groups on FB to take an example of Goans for Goa Group and would like to appreciate the effort of the Admin for controlling this religious hatred. There is another charm to this Group is that the Admin organizes meetings and conversions to discuss issues based on the discussions on the Facebook. If you can actively take part in a discussion on-line, you should make it a point to be present for the conversion too. Let us all Goenkars stay united and live in harmony like our ancestors did.
