Eleven Indian nationals have been charged in the United States for allegedly participating in a conspiracy to stage armed robberies in order to fraudulently obtain immigration benefits.
The charges were announced on Friday by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts, which stated that the accused were involved in orchestrating fake robberies at retail establishments so that store clerks could falsely present themselves as victims of crime in immigration applications.

According to the authorities, the scheme involved staging armed robberies at convenience stores, liquor outlets and fast-food restaurants across Massachusetts. Officials alleged that the incidents were deliberately planned to create the appearance of genuine criminal activity.
Investigators said the conspiracy began around March 2023 and was allegedly organised by Rambhai Patel along with several co-conspirators. The group is accused of coordinating the staged robberies and recruiting participants to carry out the acts.
Prosecutors stated that the fabricated robberies were intended to support immigration applications by falsely claiming victim status under provisions designed to assist individuals who cooperate with law enforcement after being victims of serious crimes.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and further legal proceedings will determine the outcome of the charges against the accused.
