India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed that 338 Airbus A320 family aircraft are operating in the country, with 55% having undergone a critical flight-control software update to fix a safety glitch. Following an Airworthiness Directive by Airbus and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the DGCA mandated mandatory modifications from November 29 to ensure continued safe operations.
This necessary software and hardware realignment arose after a JetBlue A320 experienced an uncommanded pitch-down incident in October, prompting a global recall affecting thousands of jets and causing cancellations and delays worldwide. Indian carriers IndiGo and Air India are actively completing updates across major airports, aiming to finish by November 30. While no flight cancellations have been reported yet, minor delays and schedule adjustments are expected as the modifications proceed.
