Bengaluru police have arrested Sanjeev Kumar Mandal, a 45-year-old Head of Department (HOD) at a prominent private college, following allegations of sexual harassment. The accused reportedly targeted a Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) student under the pretext of offering academic assistance and improving her attendance.
According to sources, Mandal invited the student to his residence, claiming he would conduct “special classes.” He allegedly gained the trust of the student’s family by speaking to her mother before the meeting. On September 25, when the student visited his home, she noticed that none of the professor’s family members were present.
The complainant alleged that Mandal misbehaved with her during the meeting and promised better marks and improved attendance in exchange for compliance with his advances. The woman lodged a formal complaint at the Tilaknagar Police Station two days ago, which led to Mandal’s arrest.
Police have charged him under sexual harassment laws, and the investigation is currently underway. Authorities are urging students to report any such incidents and seek help immediately.
