Fire Breaks Out on Rajdhani Express in MP’s Ratlam, All Passengers Evacuated

A fire erupted early Sunday in an AC coach of the Thiruvananthapuram–Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express while it ran through Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district, officials said. The blaze was reported in coach B-1 between Luni Richha and Vikramgarh Alot stations in the Kota Division of West Central Railway.

The incident occurred around 5:15 am. Railway staff immediately evacuated all passengers from the affected coach; there were no injuries or casualties among travellers or crew. Officials cut the overhead electric (OHE) supply and detached the B-1 coach from the rake so fire-fighting teams could work safely. Railway employees and officers rushed to the scene and engaged in containment and extinguishing efforts.

After the coach was removed, the train departed the site at about 9:48 am with a diesel locomotive, proceeding toward Vikramgarh Alot station. The National Train Enquiry System shows the Rajdhani is running more than five hours late and is now expected to reach Hazrat Nizamuddin at around 16:15 hrs.

West Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer Harshit Shrivastava confirmed the swift response, highlighting timely evacuation and coordination as key to preventing harm. Investigations into the fire’s cause are underway, and officials said standard safety protocols — including coach inspections and fire checks — will be reviewed. Passengers were accommodated and procedures followed to restore the service safely.
