Heavy rain continues to pound Tamil Nadu, driven by an intensifying low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. Chennai, too, has been experiencing intermittent spells of moderate to heavy showers as unstable weather conditions persist across the region.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for eight southern districts Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi and Theni — urging residents to remain cautious. Chennai has also been placed under a yellow alert, though authorities have not yet declared a school holiday in the city.

Widespread rain was reported across Tamil Nadu’s southern belt on Monday, prompting the IMD to warn of heavy rainfall. Local administrations are currently assessing whether educational institutions should be closed based on ground conditions.
In Cuddalore, District Collector CP Aditya Senthilkumar has already announced a holiday for schools in view of the persistent downpour. Other districts are expected to take similar decisions depending on rainfall intensity and public safety considerations.
