Highest successful run chase in IPL final

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s bowlers delivered a disciplined and high-pressure performance to restrict Gujarat Titans to 155/8 in the IPL 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. Despite a fighting unbeaten half-century from Washington Sundar, GT were kept below a par total after losing regular wickets through the innings.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru struck early through Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, removing Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan inside the Powerplay to immediately seize control of the final. The squeeze continued through the middle overs, where Rasikh Salam Dar produced his best spell of the season, finishing with 3/27 and breaking the backbone of the Gujarat innings.Amid the collapse, Washington Sundar stood firm for Gujarat Titans. He survived an early reprieve when a catch off his bat, taken by Jordan Cox, was ruled to have touched the ground. Sundar made full use of that lifeline, anchoring the innings with a composed unbeaten fifty, striking five boundaries and ensuring GT crossed the 150 mark in a challenging final.

Now, with a target of 156 in a high-pressure final, RCB are chasing a historic second consecutive IPL title. For Gujarat Titans, the task is equally steep: defending a modest total in a final, relying on early breakthroughs and their strong pace attack to push for a second IPL crown after their triumph in 2022.
