Singapore: India has signed an agreement to export its BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system to Vietnam, while a similar defence deal with Indonesia is in the final stages of negotiation, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh has revealed.
Speaking at the prestigious Shangri-La Dialogue, Singh said the deal with Vietnam has already been signed, although an official public announcement is yet to be made. He added that discussions with Indonesia are progressing rapidly and could be concluded in the near future.

“My understanding is that with both Indonesia and with Vietnam, the deal is in the final stages. In fact, for Vietnam, I understand that it has already been signed, probably not publicly announced, but it’s already been signed,” Singh said during the summit.
The development marks another significant step in India’s efforts to expand its defence exports and strengthen strategic partnerships across Southeast Asia. The BrahMos missile, jointly developed by India and Russia, is regarded as one of the world’s fastest operational supersonic cruise missiles and has emerged as a key component of India’s defence export strategy.
The potential agreements with Vietnam and Indonesia come amid growing regional interest in advanced missile systems as countries seek to bolster their maritime and defence capabilities in the Indo-Pacific region.
India secured its first major international BrahMos export order from the Philippines in 2022, and the latest deals are expected to further enhance New Delhi’s position as an emerging global defence exporter.
