External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, currently on an official visit to Washington, held talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, with a key focus on formalising bilateral cooperation in the exploration, mining and processing of critical minerals.
Jaishankar said the meeting reviewed multiple dimensions of the India-US strategic partnership, including trade, energy, nuclear cooperation, defence, critical minerals and emerging technologies. He added that both sides agreed to convene early meetings of various bilateral mechanisms to further advance shared priorities.

In a statement, Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott said Rubio and Jaishankar welcomed the recently concluded India-US trade deal agreed between President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The two leaders emphasised the importance of our democracies working together to unlock new economic opportunities and advance our shared energy security goals,” the statement noted.
The statement further said that both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation through the Quad framework. They also underscored that a stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific region remains essential to promoting shared interests and regional security.
