A 42-year-old Indian-origin man, Vikrant Thakur, has appeared in Adelaide Magistrates Court, admitting to killing his wife but pleading not guilty to murder. The hearing on January 14 marked his second court appearance since Supriya Thakur, 36, was found unconscious at their Adelaide home on December 21. Police performed CPR, but she could not be revived.
Following his lawyer’s advice, Vikrant said he pleads guilty to manslaughter, arguing the death was unintentional. Prosecutors had previously sought a 16-week adjournment for DNA results and a post-mortem report. The case is set to resume in April.
Meanwhile, Supriya’s friends and community have launched a fundraiser to support her son, highlighting her dedication as a mother and her aspirations to become a registered nurse.
