In a startling development in Odisha’s Subarnapur district, police said a newly married woman allegedly orchestrated her own “kidnapping” with the help of her lover. Haribandhu Patel, alias Rinku, a resident of Bolangir district, had married Rashmi of Boudh district on February 21.
While the couple was returning home, a white Maruti car reportedly intercepted them near Nuabandha under Tarbha police limits. It was initially claimed that the woman’s former boyfriend, allegedly armed, forcibly took her away, leaving the groom stranded.

However, after the groom filed a complaint, police launched an investigation. Technical analysis and questioning revealed that the woman had allegedly coordinated the plan herself and contacted her lover to stage the abduction.
Subarnapur Superintendent of Police confirmed that the woman had left voluntarily with the man and that no kidnapping had occurred. Police said further legal action would follow as per law.
