Odisha Merchant Navy Officer Goes Missing Near Mauritius, Family Seeks Centre and State Intervention

A merchant navy officer from Odisha’s Bhadrak district has reportedly gone missing while on duty aboard a vessel near Mauritius, triggering concern among his family and prompting them to seek immediate intervention from both the Centre and the state government.

The missing seafarer has been identified as Sarthak Mahapatra, a resident of Kespur village in Bhadrak district. He has been employed with a private shipping company since July 2025.

According to his mother, Rashmita Mahapatra, the vessel had embarked on a voyage from China to West Africa and was on its return journey to China via Singapore when the incident occurred on February 3.

The family has appealed to the authorities to expedite search and rescue efforts and ensure all possible measures are taken to trace Mahapatra at the earliest.
