Passport on Hold: Kuwait NRI Moves Gujarat High Court Over Traffic Case Block

A 46-year-old NRI from Gujarat, who has worked in Kuwait for over two decades, has approached the Gujarat High Court after the Indian Embassy refused to renew his passport due to a pending traffic offence.

The petitioner, Mohsin Surti from Mahisagar, said his livelihood and residence status in Kuwait are in danger, as the Embassy has withheld passport renewal because of a wrong-side driving case registered against him in 2024 at Lunawada police station.

His passport, issued in 2016, expires in January 2026. Surti applied for renewal on August 7, 2025, but the Embassy rejected it on August 25, insisting on a closure report or a court order for even a temporary passport.
