The Indian Army’s Trishakti Corps has launched Sikkim’s first community radio station in a border village, named “Sikkim Sundari,” in a significant step toward improving communication in remote high-altitude regions. The initiative is designed to bridge information gaps and provide residents with access to essential updates.
According to officials, the station will broadcast local news, weather forecasts, and details of government schemes, while also serving as a platform to highlight regional culture. It is expected to encourage participation among local youth by offering opportunities to develop communication skills and engage with community-driven content.
Army officials stated that the project aims to strengthen connectivity, amplify grassroots voices, and support development in isolated areas. The station was inaugurated in the presence of senior Trishakti Corps officers, civil administration representatives, and members of the local community.
Separately, Border Roads Organisation officials reviewed landslide damage in North Sikkim and directed teams to speed up restoration work to ensure road connectivity is restored quickly.
