Tata Sons chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran has called on Air India employees to stay focused on execution and cost control, as the airline navigates a challenging phase for the global aviation industry. Speaking at a townhall in Gurugram, he broke his silence on recent developments at the carrier following CEO Campbell Wilson’s resignation.
Chandrasekaran said that while the airline’s long-term outlook remains strong, the current environment is difficult, with the impact visible across the aviation sector worldwide. He urged employees to concentrate on areas within their control, improve operational efficiency, and remain disciplined on costs.
He reiterated that the Tata Group remains fully committed to Air India and continues to work closely with its management. According to him, the airline has made significant progress since its acquisition in 2022, including fleet expansion, system upgrades, consolidation of airlines, and hiring of over 17,000 employees.
However, he also acknowledged ongoing pressures such as supply chain disruptions, rising fuel costs, and geopolitical tensions affecting flight operations, particularly in the Gulf region.
Air India remains in transition as the company looks for a new CEO. A board-appointed committee has begun the search process, while Campbell Wilson continues in his role until a successor is named.
