Days after a mass suicide sent shockwaves through Surat, the prime accused in the case has been arrested in Delhi. Vaibhav Rungta was taken into custody following crucial evidence, including a three-page suicide note and the testimony of the family’s seven-year-old daughter, who survived the tragedy.

According to investigators, the arrest was made by the Vesu police team using technical surveillance. However, a local Delhi court declined to grant transit remand, directing that the accused must appear before a court in Surat instead.

Suicide Note Details Alleged Credit Card Fraud and Threats

The investigation into the deaths of Balmukund Khetan and his family uncovered alleged financial exploitation and mental harassment. A three-page suicide note written in Hindi reportedly describes how Rungta misused Khetan’s credit cards, leading to mounting financial distress.

Khetan, a stock market professional originally from Bihar, had allegedly confronted Rungta and demanded the return of his money. Police sources indicate that he was met with verbal abuse and alleged death threats, which investigators believe contributed to extreme mental pressure on the family.

Authorities suspect that sustained financial manipulation and intimidation pushed the family to the brink.

Survivor’s Account Raises Further Questions

The couple’s youngest daughter, seven-year-old Prithvi, emerged as the sole survivor of the incident. While undergoing treatment, she reportedly told relatives that she had been “spoon-fed” a substance by her parents.

Her statement has led investigators to believe that the children may have been poisoned first, before the parents consumed the same substance. Police officials have stated that Prithvi’s formal statement will be recorded once doctors confirm that she has fully recovered.

The case continues to unfold as authorities piece together the sequence of events leading up to the tragedy, with financial fraud and sustained psychological distress emerging as central elements in the investigation.
