National Testing Agency has officially cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3 following serious allegations of a question paper leak and examination irregularities. The decision was announced on May 12 after growing concerns over the integrity and transparency of the country’s biggest medical entrance exam.
According to the NTA, the cancellation was made after reviewing inputs from central agencies and findings shared by law enforcement authorities. The agency stated that the move was necessary to maintain fairness and public trust in the national examination system. The exam will now be conducted again on fresh dates, which will be announced separately.
The controversy began after reports emerged that a “guess paper” circulating before the examination allegedly contained several questions matching the actual NEET-UG paper. This triggered an investigation by the Rajasthan Special Operations Group, which is currently probing whether the leak was linked to an organised racket.
The situation intensified after student organisations, including the National Students’ Union of India, staged protests demanding strict action against those responsible. Many students and parents also raised concerns online, questioning the credibility of the examination process.
In response to the seriousness of the allegations, the Government of India has now handed over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a comprehensive inquiry. The NTA confirmed that it will fully cooperate with the investigation and provide all required documents and records.
While acknowledging the inconvenience caused to lakhs of students, the agency said cancelling the exam was necessary to prevent long-term damage to the credibility of India’s examination system. Fresh exam dates and admit card details are expected to be released soon through official NTA channels.
