Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, 52, drowned on September 19, 2025, near Lazarus Island during a yacht party off Singapore’s Marina at Keppel Bay. Singapore police testified that Garg was severely intoxicated from heavy drinking, including gin and whisky, making him unsteady. He wore a life jacket initially but removed it before swimming back to the 20-person yacht, later declining a second one offered by friends.
Witnesses saw him go limp mid-swim, floating face-down and foaming at the mouth. Friends performed CPR, and the Coast Guard rushed him to Singapore General Hospital, but he was pronounced dead hours later—just a day before his North East India Festival show.

The inquiry follows Assam CID’s Special Investigation Team charge sheet filed December 12, 2025, charging seven people, including four with murder.
