PANJIM: In a prostitution raid late Friday evening Panjim Police arrested a pimp hailing from West Bengal and rescued a woman.
Police said that based on reliable information a trap was laid and a suspect detained, while the woman, who had been procured from another State, was rescued.
Panjim Police Inspector Sidhant Shirodkar said they have arrested Manojit G H Pattanayak resident of Porvorim and native of West Bengal. He said the girl has been lodged in the protective home at Merces.
He said that another accused Chadda (full name not known) is at large as he managed to escape before the police team could trace him.
Shirodkar said the pimps used to supply girls to customers and were living on their earnings. He said that both the accused have been booked under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act and Indian Penal Code.
