10 Years On, Margao’s Multistoried Parking Complex Remains Unbuilt; Madganvcho Awaaz Calls It a ‘Monument of Betrayal’

A decade after the foundation stone was laid, the Multistoried Parking Complex in Margao remains a non-starter, drawing sharp criticism from citizens’ group Madganvcho Awaaz and youth leader Prabhav Naik.

The foundation stone for the project was laid on September 15, 2015, with promises of easing Margao’s parking chaos and traffic congestion. However, not a single brick has been added since, leaving the site barren. On its tenth anniversary, Madganvcho Awaaz marked the occasion with a symbolic protest, placing a wreath at the site to highlight what they called a “Monument of Incompetence and Betrayal.”

Naik accused defector MLA-turned-Minister Digambar Kamat of misleading Margao’s residents with false assurances and reducing development to mere photo opportunities. “The empty site is a stark reminder of ten years of lies, neglect, and deception. What should have been a lifeline for the city is now a graveyard of promises,” he said.

He added that each passing year without progress further exposes the incompetence of those in power, stressing that the project has become a “Monument of Betrayal” where the hopes of Margao’s citizens remain buried.

Naik further stated that Madganvcho Awaaz will continue to remind people of such betrayals and hold elected representatives accountable for their repeated failures. “This fight is not just about a parking project but about demanding responsibility from those in power,” he said.

Concluding the protest, Naik remarked that the act of placing a wreath was a symbolic gesture by Margao’s youth to signal that they will not remain silent spectators to incompetence and deceit.
