100 arrested as cops crackdown on matka

PANJIM: After facing an embarrassment in the High Court of Bombay at Goa for allegedly failing to find the origin of matka gambling, the State police swung into action and conducted at least 100 raids across Goa.
“In a major crackdown by Goa Police on illegal matka gambling activities, 100 raids all over Goa by the (both) District Police and Crime Branch have been conducted leading to approximately 100 arrests and the raids are ongoing,” DGP Dr Muktesh Chander said.
The High Court last week observed that if Goa Police fails to unearth the origin of the illegality, it might form a Special Investigating Team. The court gave the government two weeks to submit its reply.
