108 ambulance services applauded

Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Roopa Bhakta has said the GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute’s credible service through its 108 ambulance service has saved the lives of 4,000 people in the State till date.
She was addressing a gathering at a beneficiary meet organised by GVK EMRI at Bhushan hall in Mapusa on Saturday.
The mayor requested the GVK EMRI to organise first aid camps in villages and towns to educate the public on first aid treatment so that more victims can be saved.
“By providing day and night services, the GVK EMRI has proved beyond any shadow of doubt that they are doing their job seriously and hence the people should not hesitate to call 108 emergency services immediately in an emergency,” said Bhakta.
EM Rooms Manager of GVK EMRI Dr Sunil Kumar Jadhav said they have got 18 ambulances in the State, of which seven are Active Life supporters in which ECG machines have been installed in the vehicles.
“As soon as a call is received, the ambulance is dispatched to the location given by the caller and on reaching the site, necessary pre-hospital care is rendered to stabilise the victim while being transported to the Goa Medical hospital, Bambolim or the nearest hospital of the victim’s choice,” said Dr Jadhav.
Earlier in her welcome speech, Pournima Walunj stated that GVK EMRI started its operations in the State on September 5, 2008.
“Since then, the GVK EMRI has attended to 47,323 emergencies and has saved the lives of 4019 people. We provide services in regard to medical emergencies (road accidents, cardiac, epilepsy, animal bites, etc.), police emergencies (crime, thefts) and fire emergencies (burns, industrial health hazards, etc.),” said Walunj.
On the occasion, beneficiaries were felicitated by Roopa Bhakta.
Neena Naik and Vijay Kinrekar narrated their experiences about the108 emergency services. Pratista Mudras compered the programme and Vishal Kankonker later proposed the vote of thanks.
