132 cases of driving under influence of alcohol booked on Saturday night

PANJIM: The Goa Traffic Police and District Police on Sunday said that 132 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol were booked during the extensive special drive against drunken driving on Saturday night from 7 pm to 11 pm across the State.
“Goa Police continues its drive against drunken driving- Goa Police in pursuance of its avowed commitment to Traffic safety and safer roads has continued its drive against drunken driving. On Saturday in its special drive the traffic Police has booked 132 cases across the State. The Police Inspector will personally appear before the Court along with APP and will seek maximum punishment of imprisonment and suspension of license of the violator’s highlighting the gravity of the offence.” the police informed 
Of the total number of cases, 55 were booked in North Goa whereas in South Goa, 77 cases were booked during the extensive special drive against drunken driving on Saturday night taking the total tally to 132.
The force has appealed to the motorists to deposit from drunken driving. Significantly, of late the courts to have adopted a hard approach against drunken driving and awarded a sentence of jail term of up to a week to the offenders.
Meanwhile, it can be recalled that on August 11, in spite of giving sufficient publicity about the drive, 315 cases of drunken driving had been booked by the Police across the State in few hours. In future more such drives with element of surprise regarding date, time and place will continue regularly. The Police will seek harsher punishment in such drives.
