A tragic incident has been reported at Polem Beach, where a 19-year-old polytechnic student from Ankola, Karnataka, allegedly drowned while swimming after reportedly bunking college along with two friends.
According to sources, the three students had visited the beach for an outing when the incident occurred. While swimming in the sea, one of the youths was reportedly caught in strong currents and went missing.
A missing complaint was registered on Thursday, following which a large-scale search operation was launched. Teams from the Indian Coast Guard, Goa Police, and local fishermen are jointly conducting search efforts to trace the missing student.
Authorities stated that operations are ongoing, with personnel scanning coastal waters and nearby areas in hopes of locating the youth.
The incident has once again drawn attention to concerns over the absence of police or lifeguard presence at Polem Beach — an issue that had previously been highlighted by O Heraldo.
