2 arrested for hiring, mortgaging cars using forged documents

Police on Saturday arrested two persons for their involvement in hiring three cars from the capital city and changing their registration numbers. Two of the vehicles were mortgaged using forged documents.
The names of the two accused as furnished by Town Police are Santosh Gaonkar, 32, and Govinda Lamani, 26. Two more people, Mukund Shankar Gondhali and Robin Gyanchand (both in the 30s), who are the main accused, are absconding, the police said.
Mukund and Robin, both residents of Betim, had hired the cars – a Toyota Innova and two Wagon Rs – belonging to three different people from St Inez and Mala, here.
Krishna Atmaram Godkar of St Inez complained that Mukund and Robin induced him to handover his Toyota Innova (GA-07-C-5015) and two Wagon Rs belonging to Shaikh Hassan of St Inez and Vicky Naik of Mala.
Godkar said they were given to understand the vehicles were hired between April 2 and April 20, 2010, for a company named Goa Property Consultancy. But later on after inquiries realised they were being cheated, he mentioned.
PI Sandesh Chodankar said the Innova car was recovered and two people arrested today evening. “We also recovered two Wagon Rs which are not of this crime registered,” he stated.
The PI said Mukund had forged the documents and made a RC book in his name. We are likely to make arrests as this appears to be an organised racket, he mentioned.
