SALIGAO: The Saligao Police arrested two accused who were absconding in a case where a local taxi driver, Sandeep Uglekar from Cruz Waddo, Saligao was attacked and robbed last week.
The duo arrested in the wee hours of Wednesday have been identified as Shabbir Bellgu and Lalsahab alias Saddam, residing at Orda-Candolim.
Last week, the taxi driver was robbed of Rs 18,000 and other documents near his home by two Karnataka natives. Saligao Police managed to apprehend two of the accused the same day while the other two are absconding.
The Investigating Officer from Saligao Police Station Amarnath Passi informed Herald that the duo which was absconding has been arrested on Wednesday morning.
“On being produced before JMFC, Mapusa, the duo has been remanded to seven days police custody. A total of four people were involved in the attack on the taxi driver, who was returning home from Calangute, when two people came from behind snatched his phone, punched him and took away his wallet and fled,” informed Passi.
A case has been registered under Section 394 read with 34 Indian Penal Code (IPC) and is further investigated by PSI Passi under the supervision of Saligao PI.
The duo is also involved in cases of chain snatching and robbery in the past.
