PANJIM: Two Youth Congress members including General Secretary Varad Mardolkar, on Saturday sustained minor burn injuries while burning the effigy of Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar over his controversial remark on the gang rape of two Delhi women tourists.
Mardolkar and Deepak Pai sustained burn injuries. Mardolkar is shifted to GMC for treatment after his face was partially burnt. Pai had injuries on his ears.
Both along with the Goa Youth Congress members were burning effigy of the tourism minister condemning his statement on gang rape as a “stray incident” and “handiwork of outsiders”. The minister also called the five accused as “nadaan” (naïve).
Meanwhile in another set back for the Congress after two of its youth leaders sustained burn injuries, the Panjim police booked 28 Youth Congress leaders for creating a public nuisance by burning effigy of Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar on Saturday.
Varad Mardolkar and Deepak Pai, both of whom sustained burn injuries while setting the effigy on fire along with others have been booked for forming unlawful assembly outside its headquarters in Panjim, disturbing the free flow of traffic, creating public nuisance, burning the effigy using fuel and damaging public property.
Aditya Mardolkar, Prakash Jalmi, Lawrence Braganza, Sakib Kadri, Abhijeet Mhamaikar and Shreeram Parab are among 20 others booked under relevant IPC sections.
