VALPOI: Around 200 Melauli villagers on Saturday protested in front of Valpoi Police Station accusing the cops of harassment by issuing notices to eight locals.
The villagers demanded that the government direct the police to stop issuing notices to the poor locals and threatened to launch an agitation in different way against the proposed IIT project.
“We held the protest against the Valpoi Police in front of the police station for issuing ‘unnecessary’ notices to the eight villagers on Saturday. The government is not allowing us to protest peacefully against the proposed IIT project,” claimed Sadayo Melekar, a villager.
“We have submitted the letter to the Valpoi Police Station stating that we are holding a peaceful protest in our village since the past many days. We have requested them not to send any notices to us. If Valpoi Police sends notices to the locals then we will protest against the IIT project in different way and will take law into our hands,” warned Shashikant Sawardekar, another villager.
