CANACONA: Canacona Divisional Agriculture Officer Kirtiraj Naik Gaonkar on Monday disclosed that around 250 hectares of land was cultivated for this year’s kharif season with the help of planting machinery.
“Multiple progressive farmers with the help of Directorate of Agriculture’s scheme have bought planting machinery. The vainguinim farming is being carried out at Poinguinim, Galgibaga and Pole, which depends a lot on the bandhara water. Fortunately, the planting activities are already done at the beginning of January,” said Naik Gaonkar.
Meanwhile, two youth namely Mahendra Bhandari from Poinguinim and Jitendra Fadte from Loliem have bought transplanting machinery with the financial aid from the Agriculture Department.
“During the first year we have planted an area of 50,000 sq mts with the help of machinery. However, gradually the work increased and the area covered today has reached to three lakh sq mts,” said Bhandari.
