CANACONA: As many as 34 buses were operated from Canacona to transport over 1,500 BJP workers and supporters as delegates for the mega BJP rally addressed by its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi at Merces on Sunday.
Locals, however, alleged that many buses from Karnataka were allowed into the State without any Entry Tax at the Toll Plaza at Shelli-Canacona.
According to Canaocna Block BJP sources, almost all private buses were hired for the day to transport BJP delegates from Canacona taluka and most buses were packed to capacity.
Meanwhile, scores of buses from Karnataka were also mobilized by the BJP party to transport delegates from all over Goa to the Modi rally on Sunday.
Residents along the highway informed Herald that dozens of KSTRC and other Karnataka State run buses were seen entering Goa via the Polem checkpost to Canacona since early Sunday morning.
Most of these buses were noticed making short halts at different locations in Canacona, either at Char-Rasta, Gulem before making proceeding towards Quepem and Salcete.
“Except for some buses registered at Karwar, which does not attract any Entry Tax, most buses were reportedly registered at Ankola and other districts and were allowed entry at the Shelli Entry Toll Plaza without any Entry Tax,” said a local.
