The four policemen who were arrested for nexus with drug mafia have been remanded to seven days police custody.
Suspended police inspector Ashish Shirodkar, head constable Hussain Shaikh, Sandip Parab alias Camin, and Saish Pokle were arrested yesterday in connection with Israeli drug dealer Atala, who confessed paying bribe to policemen.
Ramchandra Kankonkar alias Builder was yesterday remanded to six days police custody.
All five accused have been arrested under Section 120B of IPC, Section 8F r/w 18, 29, 30, 31, 39B of NDPS Act and Section 7, 11 and 12 of Prevention of Corruption Act.
“All the sections are cognizable and non-bailable,” Crime Branch DySP Chandrakant Salgaocar told reporters here.
He said Kankonkar alias Builder and Sandip Parab alias Builder have applied for bail, which will be heard tomorrow by Sessions judge.
The Crime Branch, however, has still not been able to trace the sixth accused Sanjay Parab.
“We are on a look out for him, let’s see, he has no option but to surrender,” he said.
“This is the initial stage of investigation and we are on the right track,” Salgaocar said.
