PANJIM: As many as 4,100 students have applied for admissions to the 1860 seats in various professional degree courses. There are also 68 seats under All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme.
The directorate of Technical Education (DTE) stopped accepting forms on May 22, but acceptance of admission forms for diploma courses in polytechnic, hotel management and pharmacy colleges will continue till June 4.
For professional degree courses – where the largest student intake is for MBBS at Goa Medical College and Hospital having 150 seats followed by 100 seats for BSc in Nursing – DTE will release the eligibility list on June 4 followed by a provisional merit list on June 10 and the final merit list on June 12.
A senior official told Herald that the rounds of admission will begin from June 15 when the students will have the opportunity to opt from different courses offered. This is also the first time that DTE has accepted admission forms for paramedical and nursing courses.
Under the Allied Health Services, the GMC is offering courses in Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, Bachelor of Optometry, BSc in Medical Imaging Technology and BSc in Anesthesia Technology for which the Goa government has allotted 20 seats each.
Whereas nine aided and non-aided institutions are offering bachelors courses in mining engineering, mechanical engineering, computer engineering, electronics & telecom, IT, electrical and electronics engineering, civil engineering, bachelor of fine arts, bachelor of pharmacy and bachelor of architecture.
In all, over 5,000 students appeared for the Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET) for admissions to five engineering colleges, Goa Medical College and Hospital, Goa Dental College, Paramedical, nursing institute, homeopathy, architecture and pharmacy colleges, on May 5-6. The results announced on May 11 had an impressive improvement in two subjects – mathematics and Physics – with one student attaining full marks in mathematics.
