43 file nominations for elections

16 candidates for two Lok Sabha seats, 27 for three Assembly by-polls

PANJIM: There are 43 candidates, including dummy candidates, who have filed their nominations for the Lok Sabha elections for two seats – North and South – and by-elections in three State Assembly constituencies – Mandrem, Shiroda and Mapusa – to be held on April 23. 
There are 27 candidates who have filed 44 nominations for the by-elections, while for the Lok Sabha there are 16 candidates, who have submitted 29 nominations.
The nomination process which began on March 28 saw political parties – BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) fielding candidates for the polls along with some independents. 
Eight candidates each, have filed their nominations for the North and South Goa parliamentary seats. There are 11 candidates in the battle field in Mapusa assembly constituency, while there are nine in Shiroda and seven in Mandrem. 
Thursday was the last day for filing nominations. Scrutiny will take place on Friday and the last date for withdrawals is April 8. Voting will take place on April 23 between 7.00am to 6.00pm.
