PONDA: Traditional fervour marked the immersion of the five-day Ganesh idols all over Ponda taluka on Tuesday.
Religious ceremonies were performed by devotees as the Ganesh idols were immersed in water bodies across the taluka.
A special form of Ganesh celebration was on display at Adpoi-Ponda, where a traditional float parade was staged with this year’s theme on ‘Saving Earth’ to preserve natural resources.
What has made the Ganesh festival special in Adpoi is that only 11 Ganesh idols are installed by 11 different families and on the fifth day, these idols are immersed in a traditional float parade amid the chanting of bhajans and devotional music.
Union Minister of State for Tourism Shripad Naik, who was also present at the Ganesh festival at Adpoi, said he would try and implement a scheme to assist and encourage the traditional Ganesh procession at Adpoi. South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar also participated in the Adpoi Ganesh festivities.
