PANJIM: Congress Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government’s decision to set up special investigating team (SIT) headed by Justice (retired) M B Shah to look into the issue of black money, alleging that the move was basically to “delay the bringing back of black money stashed abroad.”
Addressing media persons on Tuesday morning, Naik said that “there won’t be any scope for investigation in the foreign countries, where the black money is said to have been deposited, for the SIT. The basic idea behind appointing this team was nothing but a delay tactic of BJP government, who are not interested in unearthing the black money,” he alleged.
Naik, while responding to the question, said that while following directives of the Supreme Court by appointing SIT, BJP government should have acted in getting back the black money, as during the time of election they claimed to know where exactly the money was.
When asked whether he does not have faith in Shah, who had exposed illegal mining scam in Goa, Naik refused to comment stating “what I am saying is that there is no scope.”
Naik was of the opinion that the retired judges should go through a ‘cooling off’ period before taking up other jobs, assigned to them by governments.
