The Bombay High Court at Goa on Wednesday admonished six coastal village panchayats stating it will initiate contempt of court proceedings against them if its order of June 14 is not complied before the next date of hearing.
The coastal panchayats of Anjuna, Velsao-Pale, Betalbatim, Benaulim, Varca, and Cavellosim were reprimanded by the High Court for their failure to file affidavits in the terms of the Court order of June 14. The Court was hearing a suo motto writ petition on CRZ violations.
A Division Bench of Justice A S Oka and Justice F M Reis on June 14 had directed all coastal panchayats (twenty-six) to file affidavits on structures that were demolished; proceedings pending before the director of panchayats; cases where there is an order of remand passed by the director of panchayats and further steps taken by the panchayat.
They were also directed to set out parameters for action and if applications had been made for providing demolition squad and if the applications were not acted upon.
Advocate General Subodh Kantak was directed to take instructions regarding pendency of proceedings before the director of panchayats and submit a chart before this Court indicating the position of pending matters.
When the matter came up for hearing on Wednesday morning it was revealed that some six panchayats had not complied with court orders.
The matter was adjourned until July 15 with a warning that erring panchayats should file their affidavits by the next hearing.
