MARGAO, JAN 1
Margao police have arrested nine persons in connection with the complaint of kidnapping lodged by one Mohammed Asif Inamdar on Saturday.
Margao PI Santosh Desai said the police registered the offence of kidnapping after Asif alleged that he was forcibly taken from Khareband by the accused and tied to a chair on a building, before being mercilessly beaten up by the accused persons.
The complaint stated that the accused called up his uncle and demanded a ransom of Rs one lakh for his release.
“This appears to be the case of technical kidnapping. The accused persons have contended that the complainant allegedly owes them money amounting to Rs one lakh when he was working in their shop. But, that has not given them any right to mercilessly assault the victim”, PI Desai said.
He informed that the accused was working in a cell phone shop owned by the accused and had had left the establishment to take up a job in another shop. The victim’s uncle told newsmen at Hospicio that the shop owner has called Mohammed back for work in the establishment, which was turned down, antagonising the owner.
The accused has contended that the victim has left the establishment as he owed the money”, PI Desai said, adding that this has not given the accused the right to forcibly take the victim and assault him to hand over the money.
The police are investigating.
