PANJIM: It’s been a month since the Commission of Inquiry into the land grab cases was announced. The paper is still going on to complete the formalities of appointing retired High Court Judge VK Jadhav to take over. And of course there’s this small matter of briefing him about the land grab cases, its complexities and the cast of characters, in a series of consistent stealing Gian land through stealth with a compliant system, facilitating the loot.
Almost a month after constituting the State government is yet to complete the formalities for retired High Court Judge VK Jadhav to take over.

The government has recently received service details of Justice Jadhav from the Bombay High Court, based on which official formalities are being worked out. “Justice Jadhav is yet to take the charge. We are still working on the formalities including his remuneration,” sources said.
Sources also said that simultaneously required infrastructure and manpower is being put in place so that once Jadhav takes charge, he can immediately start work.
So far, the government has also not held any meeting with Jadhav to brief him on the multi-crore land scam cases.
The State government on August 30, formed single-member Commission under the Commission of Inquiries Act 1952. The commission has to submit report to the government with recommendations within four months from the date of its first seating, he said.
As per the terms and reference, the Commission will have to inquire and fix the responsibility in all the cases of land grab involving private land and any other land in the State and to find out involvement of government officers and any other public functionaries and private individual in such land grabbing.
The Commission will also inquire and find out the loopholes, deficiencies, lacunas and negligence in the administrative system and legal frame work that led to large scale land grabbing.
The Commission will recommend to the government the steps, measures and actions to change the administrative system, legal frame work for the purpose of avoiding cases of land grabbing in future and also necessary changes to be made in law for preventing such cases in future.
