MARGAO: Residents of Chandor are getting more and more supporters to voice their grievance and support their cause in the battle against the Indian Railways. Even as the local MLA has pledged his support to the morcha scheduled tomorrow, Aam Aadmi Party Goa convener Elvis Gomes has dashed off a letter to the South Western Railways on another issue pertaining to the Chandor railway station.
In his letter Elvis has strongly objected to the South Western Railways proposal to convert Chandor into a halting station and pointed out that Chandor which is of historic significance has successfully retained its rustic look which would be destroyed by the railways plans.
Further he pointed out that double tracking of the railway line was sought to be done to improve the transport facilities to the Mormugao Port and argued that it does not make sense to have a halting station at Chandor to benefit the port.
Meanwhile, residents of Chandor, Guirdolim and other areas are scheduled to have a morcha in the village tomorrow with MLA Clafacio Dias participating in it.
