Police sources indicated that the duo could be summoned for questioning this week as ACB has recently finished grilling retired director of social welfare N B Narvekar for his alleged involvement in the massive land fraud.
“Sawant brothers might be summoned this week. Officials are ready with a list of questions on allegations of criminal conspiracy they hatched with other government officials to grab the land,” the source said.
The ACB had registered the FIR under sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 468 (forgery) of the Indian Penal Code, and Section 13(I)(d) (ii) and Section 13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against DySP Shamba and Laldas for hatching a criminal conspiracy along with officials of the Revenue department and Serula comunidade.

According to a complaint, the police officer was occupying nearly 3,000 sq m of Serula comunidade land at Vijaynagar in Porvorim and constructed a bungalow there. The FIR also mentioned the land was encroached upon by Laldas claiming to be a mundkar living in a small structure and later transferred the land in the name of Shamba’s wife Kranti, despite knowing it was in violation of Mundkarial Act. Verification of documents and other evidence pointed to the involvement of the two brothers in the scam along with the others.
Shamba, was then under suspension in connection with a complaint filed by a lady constable for allegedly misbehaving with her.
