MARGAO: The South Goa District Collector has issued notifications that will demarcate several roads across South Goa as accident prone zones so as to regulate traffic. The district magistrate has also issued orders notifying traffic signage.
This is in keeping with decision taken by the government to encourage road safety in the State.
Recently the government had decided to undertake a road safety audit of the National and State highways and major district roads across the State.
Following recommendations made by the Supreme Court appointed three-member committee on road safety, the government has also decided to draw up a protocol to identify the accident prone zones in the State, every two years.
As recommended by the Supreme Court committee, PWD will also draw up a protocol to identify accident prone zones, every two years. The State has so far identified 70 accident prone zones.
As proposed in the policy, road safety councils and road safety review committees will meet once in six months and once in three months
respectively.
