PERNEM: Mopa Vimantal Pidit Xetkar Samiti, along with locals of Shemecha Advan, Mopa, on Wednesday held a candle light vigil on their land which has been acquired for International Mopa Airport.
After the massive deforestation by the company, the residents gathered at a place called Barazan and lit candles and held a vigil. Members of the Federation of Rainbow Warriors participated in this candle light vigil.
Talking to Herald, Swapnesh Sherlekar said, “This vigil was to invoke nature and ask it to flourish its energies and powers to save the land. All the pure energies of land, trees, sun and moon and evolutionary species on whom we all are dependent. We have prayed before the JAGEKAR to give us the strength, competence and success in this fight against the corrupt people and also requested to look after the people who with their evil intension want to destroy Goa.”
Sandeep Kambli, secretary of Mopa Vimantal Pidit Xetkar Samiti, said, “We prayed to God to help and support us and give us strength to fight to save our land. We also prayed that those who intend to destroy the land and this people also include any my family members or locals than he should not allow them to go ahead. We prayed and we got the result of our prayers within 10 hours wherein the High Court ordered a stay on tree cutting”.
