After brother’s arrest, rape accused surrenders

MARGAO: 22-year-old Mohammad Ishaq alias Azaan Hingora who was accused of raping a minor girl surrendered before the Margao Town Police station as his brother who was also a co-conspirator, was earlier arrested by the police.
On May 24, 2019, the mother of the victim minor girl complained to the police that since May 2017 till January 2019 the accused Azaan Hingora would stalk and follow her minor daughter when she was going for her tuition classes and that he used to sexually abuse her.
She further complained that the accused had taken nude pictures of her daughter and was threatening to make those pictures public and also forced her to steal gold from the house totally worth around Rs. 27,000.
In her statement recorded before the magistrate the victim disclosed that she was taken to a hotel in Colva and also to Cuncolim where she was sexually abused by the accused while his elder brother Jabbar Ahmed came to her flat and took away the box containing gold.
As the medical examination confirmed that the minor was sexually abused, the police invoked the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Fearing his arrest, Azaan fled Goa. Margao police visited Hyderabad on a number of occasions to apprehend him but found his house always locked. Police team led by PSI Sujay Korgaonkar went to Hyderabad again on August 23 and succeeded in arresting Jabbar on August 28 and secured his custody.
As his brother was already arrested Azaan had no option but to surrender and PSI Laureen Sequeira is now investigating the case. Meanwhile IGP Jaspal Singh has appreciated the police team for their good work and assured them an award for their work.
