Agonda woman succumbs

CANACONA: The 22-year-old pregnant woman from Agonda, who had attempted suicide in her house on Friday afternoon, died in Goa Medical College, Bambolim, in the wee hours of Saturday.

According to police sources, Manisha Naik died at GMC hospital at about 3.30 am and the body was later handed over to the family on Saturday morning after an autopsy.

Naik is believed to have used a duppata in a bid to hang herself to the rafter of her house at Agonda.

She was bleeding profusely through her mouth before her panic-stricken husband rushed inside and brought her down. With the help of neighbours, he moved her to the CHC, Chaudi, from where she was moved to the GMC hospital.

While the motive behind the suicide is unclear, police have reportedly registered the death as unnatural and is investigating the matter.

The body was cremated on Saturday afternoon in the village crematorium, sources told Herald.
